Foreman was scared about soap role

Hardman Jamie Foreman has revealed he was "scared" about joining “EastEnders”.

The actor, whose autobiography is being serialised in the Daily Mirror, said he leapt at the chance to play Derek Branning because he loved the character, having turned down previous requests to play other roles on the soap. He said: "I knew I could make Derek a character the 10 million people watching would really love - or love to hate. Then it hit me: I'm going be in “EastEnders”. It was scary. After years making movies, I was in at the deep end and it felt wonderful. I was starting all over again."

Jamie said he wished his character had got the chance to "lock horns with Peggy", played by his friend Barbara Windsor before she quit the soap.

Woody Allen wins Writers Guild honour

Veteran film-maker Woody Allen has won the original screenplay prize at the Writers Guild awards for his romantic comedy “Midnight in Paris”.

The best adapted screenplay award went to Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash for “The Descendants”. Due to the organisation's own rules, though, Oscar favourite “The Artist” had been rendered ineligible. Martin Scorsese's “Hugo” won best sound for music in a film, while “The Muppets” took the award for music in a musical feature film.

The Writers Guild Awards, held at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday, are often seen as a good indicator of which films will win writing plaudits at the Oscars.

Banderas to play Picasso in “33 Dias”

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas will play Pablo Picasso in Carlos Saura’s upcoming film “33 Dias”, which will focus on the painter’s emotional turmoil while he worked on his masterpiece “Guernica” that captured the painter’s reaction to the destruction of Basque town of Guernica in 1937 by the Nazi Luftwaffe during the Spanish Civil War.

The actor described the painter as “a character that has pursued me for a long time and I always rejected. He deserves a lot of respect because I am from Malaga, and I was born four blocks from where he was born”.

“33 Dias” will be directed by Carlos Saura and produced by Elias Querejeta. French writer Louis-Charles Sirjacq worked with the two at the writing of the script.

Matthew Perry to play in “The Good Wife”

The actor has scored a reoccurring role on the CBS drama “The Good Wife,” playing “an extremely charming Chicago attorney” with possible shady motives. His guest run will begin on March 25.

The “Friends” veteran will be Mike, an attorney who is “tasked with heading up a blue-ribbon panel that's investigating a suspicious police shooting.” But he's not going to have an easy time winning over Julianna Margulies, even though he's supposedly really charming.

“No one skates as effortlessly between drama and comedy as Matthew Perry, so we’re especially thrilled to have him on the show. We’re huge, huge fans, and are nearly giddy over what he can do with the role”, co-creators and executive producers Robert and Michelle King have declared in an interview.

Janet Jackson – “The X Factor” Judge?

After the departure of Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul last month, there are two female judges' spots available on “The X Factor".

Simon Cowell has said that he was considering the late Whitney Houston for one of the positions, and now it looks like Janet Jackson may also be a possibility. The youngest Jackson played coy with Anderson Cooper during an interview set to air Monday on his talk show. When Cooper asks the pop icon if she's going to be joining the show as a judge, Jackson, 45, seems taken off-guard and stumbles a bit and laughing.

Fox wouldn't confirm Jackson's relationship to the show, but a source close to the singer tells that she would like to do the reality show, and that Cowell has confirmed it is being discussed.
