“Ghost” musical on Broadway


According to latest news, a musical based on the 1990 film “Ghost” is heading for a Broadway premiere next year. The show, adapted for the stage by Bruce Joel Rubin from his screenplay, opened in London's West End in June.
The original score is signed by Eurythmics star Dave Stewart and Grammy winner Glen Ballard. The Broadway musical will start next April after a month of previews at a yet to be announced theatre. For the moment, the casting has not been confirmed, but the news is expected to be announced on a later date.

The West End production currently stars ex-“Coronation Street” actor Richard Fleeshman and Canadian actress Caissie Levy.

Martin Sheen honoured at Chicago Film Festival


Veteran actor Martin Sheen was honoured at the Chicago International Film Festival for his contribution to Hollywood. He was also the star guest at the annual event in Chicago on Friday, when his son Emilio Estevez presented him with the Career Achievement Award during a special ceremony.
The actor who made his big screen debut in the 1960s and has starred in several box office hits, including “Apocalypse Now” and “Wall Street” was all praises for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn who had declared Aug 19 as Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez Day.

“You’ve got this guy in the middle of it all in Illinois who’s a progressive, who’s deeply humane, extremely bright and so practical and he’s just one of my heroes and I adore him,” said Sheen.

Disney announces two new Pixar films from “Up” co-directors


At its D23 Expo Saturday Disney announced two new Pixar films, one which will explore the human mind, and the other will imagine a world where dinosaurs still walk the Earth.
“From director Pete Docter comes a new film that explores a world that everyone knows, but no one has seen: inside the human mind”, Disney and Pixar tweeted. “What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Peterson’s hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct”, there came another message in addition to the first.

The D23 Expo, being held in Anaheim, offers fans access to all things Disney, including films, television and theme parks. Its name refers to 1923, when Walt Disney opened his studio.

Rosamund Pike to star with Tom Cruise


Rosamund Pike will star opposite Tom Cruise in the action film “One Shot”, based on a “Jack Reacher” novel by Lee Child.
Pike, who also played in Pride and Prejudice” and “Die another Day”, will star as a defence lawyer for the serial murderer that Reacher (Cruise) wants to take down. Christopher McQuarrie, who won the 1996 best screenwriting Oscar for “The Usual Suspects”, is directing the movie.

“One Shot” has already attracted criticism from fans of Child's “Jack Reacher” novels. “People think we should have had an actor that looks more like [how] Reacher is described in the books. There aren't any such actors, so it's much more a question of which actor has the talent and screen presence to create what Reacher does on the screen” admitted Child recently.

New trailer for “Underworld: Awakening”


Kate Beckinsale is back with a new movie from the “Underworld” franchise, under the title of “Underworld: Awakening”.
The actress reprises her role as vampire Selene in the fourth instalment of the sci-fi franchise. The fourth film is produced by her husband Len Wiseman, who directed the first two “Underworld” films. The movie begins with Selene breaking free after being held in a coma-like state for 12 years. Selene escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of vampires and Lycans.

The film sees a return for Kate after five years away from the franchise - she did not feature in the third “Underworld film”, a prequel to the first two movies.
